Best Friendship, Friends, Friendship

friends-running-pan_14938

Again, it will not be the first time you hear this. CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY. The kind of people you surround yourself with, determines the way you feel to a large extent. If they are whiny, talk only about the problems and you smoke/drink because your friends do, it’s time to change your friends. It’s better to be with friends who make you feel better. It will be even better if they have the same interests as you do. The more time you spend with such friends, the more stress will stay away from you. Don’t be around people who constantly spread negativity.

Yoga

baby-yoga

The reason Yoga features higher than exercise on the list is the fact that it’s more efficient and even more importantly, less time consuming. Even taking control of your breathing patterns is a proficient way to keep your mind free of the unwanted tension. Generally, people breathe in short and rapid breaths. Breathing deeply and slowly will calm your body and help keep stress away from your mind as well as your body. Fascinatingly, rapid breathing reduces carbon dioxide levels more than desired and this leads to an increase in mental agitation. Long, slow and deep breaths will help keep the carbon dioxide levels at optimum levels. If you employ this breathing technique, it’s enough to achieve your goal of staying tension free but if you want to take your Yoga to the next level, its better because it will help you keep you agile and is beneficial for your joint health as it will help avoid arthritis and other joint problems.

Signs of a True Friendship

Signs Friendship, True Friendship

As you go through life, you will encounter many people. Some of them will be only acquaintances, while others will become friends. True friends are rare; you may have only a few true friends in your life at any given time. There are several recognizable characteristics that true friendships posses that other relationships lack.

circle-group-of-friends copy

Listening

A true friend listens to you. You can express your feelings and talk about your experiences – good and bad – with a true friend. Likewise, if you have a true friendship with someone, you will allow your friend to talk with you without interrupting when he has a problem, good news or an experience to share.

Confronting

According to Psychology Today, a true friend will tell you things you do not necessarily want to hear about yourself. For instance, if a friend notices you haven’t been eating, she will find a way to confront – not criticize – you about it. True friends care more about your health and happiness than about the friendship itself. In other words, your friend will confront you about unhealthy habits, even if it means losing your friendship.

Trusting

Trust is another sign of a true friendship. A true friend earns your trust, and you know that he will not betray you or stab you in the back. In a true friendship, you are able to confide in each other and know that the information you share with one another will not be shared with others.

Maintaining Contact

It’s difficult to maintain a true friendship if you don’t make it a priority. True friends maintain regular contact with one another, whether by phone, social networking sites, email or in-person meetings.

Giving

Coach Carolyn Baana suggests that true friends give with no expectations of receiving anything in return. Real friends give their time, love and care without expecting to receive anything back.

Authentic

You are comfortable being who you really are in a true friendship. If you feel you cannot be authentic around your friend, you will not be able to form a true friendship with her.

Supportive

True friendships involve two people who support each other no matter what. It can be difficult to know how to help a friend who’s facing a difficult situation, though. Call him, even if you don’t think he will answer the phone, and leave an encouraging message he can listen to later. Send an inspirational card to your friend in the mail or send him an email letting him know that you’re there for him if he needs anything.

m_image1314883113-32194

Acceptance

According to executive and life coach Sharon Mikrut, real friends accept each other – flaws and all. A real friend accepts you for who you are, whether you are organized or disorganized, extroverted or introverted, on time or habitually late. Although a real friend may inspire you to be a better person, she does not try to change you into the person she thinks you should be.

Nonjudgmental

True friendships are nonjudgmental. Your friend may not agree with or like everything you do. He may even express an opinion about the things you do, but he will not judge or belittle you for your decisions or behavior.

“Am I Loved?” Vs. “Do I Love?”

23 Sunday Feb 2014

Am I Loved, Do I Love, love

The two scenarios that usually cause us to contemplate “What is love?” give meaning to the question. Either we wonder, “Am I loved?” or we ask, “Do I love?”

It is easier to first address the “What is love?” question in terms of the love we feel coming toward us. If we understand how to recognize when we are being loved, we can also learn to recognize our love for another.

When we are loved, we tend to feel it intuitively in our guts. But how does it work? Is there an extrasensory perception in the heart that is able to read the feelings in another person’s heart?

Holding-Hands

In fact, it’s really not that ethereal or supernatural. On the contrary, it’s pretty practical and down-to-earth. Our hearts take cues from our senses. Everything we see, hear, taste, touch or smell teaches us about our universe. We don’t need to contemplate or ask questions. Our sensory organs report to our brains, and our brains interpret the data and send the report to our hearts. So, if we see a loving smile, hear loving words, or feel a loving touch, the brain processes this information and concludes, “Hey, we are being loved right now!”

In short, when we are loved, there is tangible proof. It’s not an abstract thought or feeling, it’s concrete and evidenced. As King Solomon wrote in his book of Proverbs (27:19), “As water reflects a man’s face back to him, so is the heart of one man to another.” This means, when you are treated with love, your heart feels that love.

What in the world is WhatsApp ?

What in the world is WhatsApp, WhatsApp

messaging platform has been catching on for a few years with younger users and international sets of friends, but a much larger audience noticed it on Wednesday, when Facebook Inc said it had agreed to pay $19 billion for the service.

It is a phone and mobile device app to send text, video and picture messages, and 450 million people use it monthly, some 200 million more than Twitter, according to numbers from the companies.

And it’s adding a million users daily, which caught Facebook’s eye.

Download-WhatsApp-Messenger-2-8-27-for-Symbian

WhatsApp works across different types of phones, across borders, and without ads. Unlike texts, there is no per-message charge, and there is no fee for international messages, which has helped make it popular outside the United States; WhatsApp charges a 99 cent annual subscription fee, which is waived for the first year.

Customers download the app, type in their phone number, and verify with a code sent by text.

While WhatsApp encrypts communication and does not store messages on its computers, satisfying some privacy concerns, it also prompts new users to allow the app access their address books, prompting another set of privacy issues.

WhatsApp faces a number of rivals, including Rakuten Inc’s Viber, Naver Corp’s Line and Tencent Holdings Ltd’s WeChat. All are popular among young people, a demographic that Facebook has been losing out on in recent years and that are likely part of the draw for the company’s purchase.

While kids may love the messaging, not all parents do. Mobile messaging is much more difficult for parents to monitor than Facebook, for instance, which has created new worries.

WhatsApp and Facebook both say the messaging service will maintain its independence once the deal goes through.

Webmaster Tools in wordpress

Webmaster Tools

WordPress.com provides you with built-in stats that give you lots of information about your traffic, but if you’re a stats junky and you can’t get enough info about how people are finding your site, some search engines and social sites offer additional “webmaster tools.”

For example, Google’s webmaster tools will give you some additional statistical data about your traffic, such as how many people are arriving at your site through Google queries, what part of the world your traffic is from, and how many visitors landed on each specific post or page. It will also show you the total number of individual URLs on your site that have been indexed by Google, which search keywords are most significant for your site, and other information about how Google is indexing your site.

Please note that verifying your site in order to use the webmaster tools is not necessary in order for your site to be indexed with Google, Bing, or any other search engine. WordPress.com takes care of indexing your site and of all necessary SEO for you without your having to do anything at all (other than blog)! This is just an extra step you can take if you’d like to gather some additional information on your site traffic that might be of interest to you.

For most sites, in order to verify your site for webmaster tools, you normally need to add a hidden “meta tag” to your page. Since you can’t edit the theme files of your site on WordPress.com, we provide additional tools to make this easier.

If you have multiple domain names pointing to the same site, we recommend verifying the primary domain.

All of the Website Verification Services can be accessed via your Tools→Available Tools screen.

Here are instructions for how to verify your WordPress.com site with each service:

Google Webmaster Tools

  1. Log in to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ with your Google account.
  2. Enter your blog address (without http:// or https:// in front)
  3. Click the Add a Site button
  4. You will be presented with several verification methods. Choose the Alternate Methods tab.
  5. Select the option: HTML tag
  6. Copy the content value of the meta tag. You’ll see some HTML like this:
    <meta name="google-site-verification" content="rc2RXSkjV5rz9P2s2hTwdDsnwTu4tD-gmruKUrqBGjs" />
  7. Copy the content value by itself. In the example above, you will only copy: rc2RXSkjV5rz9P2s2hTwdDsnwTu4tD-gmruKUrqBGjs
  8. Leave the verification page open and go to your blog dashboard (in a new tab/window).
  9. Open the Tools → Available Tools Page and paste the content value in the Google Webmaster Tools field under the Website Verification Services header.

  10. Click on Save Changes.
  11. Go back to the verification page and click Verify.

How to Cultivate Happiness?

17 Monday Feb 2014

Cultivate Happiness, Happiness

Based on her research, Lyubomirsky has concluded that roughly 50 percent of happiness is determined by our genes and 10 percent by our life circumstance, but 40 percent depends on our daily activities. Here are some of the practices Lyubomirsky and other researchers have identified as ways to boost your happiness.

Happiness-Quotes-Glitters-26

  • Build relationships: Perhaps the dominant finding from happiness research is that social connections are key to happiness. Studies show that close relationships, including romantic relationships, are especially important, suggesting we should make time for those closest to us—people in whom we can confide and who’ll support us when we’re down.
  • Give thanks: Research by Michael McCullough, Robert Emmons, Lyubomirsky, and others has revealed the power of simply counting our blessings on a regular basis. People who keep “gratitude journals” feel more optimism and greater satisfaction with their lives. And research shows that writing a “gratitude letter” to someone you’ve never properly thanked brings a major boost of happiness.
  • Practice kindness: Research by Elizabeth Dunn and her colleagues finds that people report greater happiness when they spend money on others than when they spend it on themselves, even though they initially think the opposite would be true. Similarly, neuroscience research shows that when we do nice things for others, our brains light up in areas associated with pleasure and reward.
  • Give up grudges: Groundbreaking studies by Everett Worthington, Michael McCullough, and their colleagues show that when we forgive those who have wronged us, we feel better about ourselves, experience more positive emotions, and feel closer to others.
  • Get physical: Exercise isn’t just good for our bodies, it’s good for our minds. Studies show that regular physical activity increases happiness and self-esteem, reduces anxiety and stress, and can even lift symptoms of depression. “Exercise may very well be the most effective instant happiness booster of all activities,” writes Lyubomirsky in The How of Happiness.
  • Get rest: Research has consistently linked lower sleep to lower happiness. What’s more, a study of more than 900 women, led by Nobel Prize-winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman, found that getting just one more hour of sleep each night might have a greater effect on happiness than a $60,000 raise.
  • Pay attention: Studies show that people who practice mindfulness—the moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and external circumstances—not only have stronger immune systems but are more likely to be happy and enjoy greater life satisfaction, and they are less likely to be hostile or anxious. Pioneering research by Richard Davidson, Jon Kabat-Zinn, and others has found that a basic eight-week mindfulness training program can significantly improve our physical and psychological well-being.
  • Don’t focus on material wealth: After our basic needs our met, research suggests, more money doesn’t bring us more happiness—in fact, a study by Kahneman found that Americans’ happiness rose with their income only until they’d made roughly $75,000; after that, their happiness plateaued. And research by Richard Easterlin has found that in the long run, countries don’t become happier as they become wealthier. Perhaps that’s why, in general, people who prioritize material things over other values are much less happy, and comparing ourselves with people who have more is a particular source of unhappiness. It also suggests why more egalitarian countries consistently rank among the happiest in the world.

Why Practice Happiness ?

Happiness, Why Practice Happiness

In addition to making us feel good, studies have found that happiness actually improves other aspects of our lives. Here is an overview of some of the good stuff that research has linked to happiness.

03-relaxation

  • Happiness is good for our health: Happy people are less likely to get sick, and they live longer.
  • Happiness is good for our relationships: Happy people are more likely to get married and have fulfilling marriages, and they have more friends.
  • Happy people make more money and are more productive at work.
  • Happy people are more generous.
  • Happy people cope better with stress and trauma.
  • Happy people are more creative and are better able to see the big picture.
